Booking does not guarantee vaccination because your destination, itinerary and medical suitability must first be reviewed.

A designated UK Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre
Yellow fever vaccine is only available through designated UK Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres. Treherbert Pharmacy is authorised to assess travellers, administer the vaccine where clinically appropriate and issue the official international certificate.

Why might you need yellow fever vaccination?
Yellow fever is a potentially serious mosquito-borne viral infection found in parts of Africa and South and Central America. Whether vaccination is recommended depends on your exact itinerary and personal circumstances.
Protection from disease
Vaccination may be recommended because your destination or planned activities create a meaningful risk of exposure to yellow fever. The risk can vary within the same country.
An entry certificate requirement
Some countries require an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis because of where you are arriving from or where you have recently travelled or transited.
These are not always the same question. A country may require a certificate even when your personal disease risk is low, while vaccination may be recommended for protection even when no certificate is required.

How your yellow fever appointment works

Book the travel clinic appointment
Use the online travel-clinic booking route or call the pharmacy. Suitable patients can normally be assessed and vaccinated during the same visit.

Complete your travel questionnaire
Provide your full itinerary, travel dates, medical history, medicines, allergies and previous vaccination information before attending.

Initial consultation and specialist assessment
Victoria can complete the initial intake and general travel consultation. Where yellow fever vaccination or certification may be needed, Jon completes the yellow-fever-specific risk assessment.

Vaccination and certificate where appropriate
Jon administers the vaccine if it is clinically suitable, provides post-vaccination advice and completes the international certificate.
When should you book?
Book as early as possible. For a person receiving an initial yellow fever vaccination, the international certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. If proof of vaccination is an entry requirement, vaccination too close to departure may leave the certificate invalid when you arrive.
Once valid, a correctly completed yellow fever certificate remains valid for the lifetime of the person vaccinated under the International Health Regulations. A small group of travellers may still be clinically advised to receive a further dose because of ongoing disease risk, but this is separate from certificate validity.
Travelling within 10 days? Contact us promptly. We can assess your itinerary and explain the options, but we cannot guarantee that vaccination or documentation will satisfy the destination’s entry rules.
Is yellow fever vaccination suitable for everyone?
No. Yellow fever is a live vaccine, so the clinician must balance the risk of infection against the risk of vaccination. Tell us about every medical condition, medicine, allergy and previous vaccine reaction.
Side effects and when to seek medical help
Most reactions are mild and short lived. Headache, muscle aches and a low-grade fever can occur, often within five to ten days of vaccination.
Serious reactions are rare. You will receive post-vaccination advice explaining the symptoms that require urgent medical attention. Seek urgent help if you become severely unwell after vaccination, particularly with rapidly worsening symptoms, breathing difficulty, confusion, jaundice or marked weakness.
Medical Letters of Exemption
If yellow fever vaccination is medically unsuitable, the centre can assess whether a Medical Letter of Exemption may be clinically appropriate.
An exemption is issued only on medical grounds. It is not an alternative simply because a traveller would prefer not to be vaccinated.
Acceptance remains at the discretion of the destination or border authority, so an exemption cannot guarantee entry. Strict mosquito-bite avoidance remains essential.

Other travel vaccines may be provided where clinically suitable and available. Vaccine timing can matter, particularly with certain live vaccines, and any additional charges will be explained before treatment.
What happens if yellow fever vaccination is not suitable?
We will explain the reason, discuss mosquito-bite avoidance and consider whether a Medical Letter of Exemption is clinically appropriate. An exemption does not guarantee entry into another country.
