Important safety information
Tell the clinician about every medical condition and medicine you use, including products bought online or from another provider. Do not use two weight-loss medicines together unless a clinician has specifically managed the change.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: current medicines supplied through this service are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell us if you may be pregnant or are planning pregnancy.
- Medical history: treatment may be unsuitable with an eating disorder, pancreatitis, type 1 diabetes, severe stomach or bowel disease, severe kidney or liver disease, or certain thyroid, endocrine, eye or cardiovascular conditions.
- Contraception: tirzepatide can reduce the reliability of oral contraception when treatment starts and after dose increases. The clinician will explain whether additional or non-oral contraception is needed.
- Surgery, sedation or anaesthetic: tell the surgical or anaesthetic team that you use a weight-management medicine because some treatments delay stomach emptying.
- Oral Wegovy tablets: the tablet has specific instructions on fasting, water intake and timing before food, drink or other oral medicines. We will explain this carefully if tablet treatment is prescribed.
- Common side effects: nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting and constipation can occur. Drink enough fluid and seek advice if symptoms are persistent, severe or causing dehydration.
Seek urgent medical advice for severe, persistent abdominal pain, particularly if it spreads to the back, as this can be a sign of pancreatitis. Call 999 for a life-threatening emergency or use NHS 111 Wales for urgent advice when it is not life-threatening.
