Bute Clinic by Treherbert Pharmacy provides private vaccination appointments for children and adults who want convenient local access to protection against infections including shingles, RSV, HPV, chickenpox, meningitis and pneumococcal disease.
Every appointment includes a suitability assessment. We review your age, health, medicines, allergies, previous vaccinations and NHS eligibility before recommending a vaccine. Booking an appointment does not guarantee vaccination.

A local clinic for planned private vaccinations
The service is designed for people who are not eligible for a particular NHS vaccination, need a vaccine outside the routine NHS schedule, require documented protection for travel or entry requirements, or prefer a private local appointment.
The correct vaccine and schedule depend on your age, medical history, immune status, previous doses and reason for vaccination. Some vaccines require a course rather than one appointment.
We support patients from Treherbert, Treorchy, the wider Rhondda, Aberdare, Hirwaun, Mountain Ash, Merthyr Tydfil and nearby South Wales communities.
Could you receive the vaccine through the NHS?
Several vaccines on this page are routinely offered free through NHS Wales to people in particular age groups or clinical risk groups. The private service does not replace those programmes.
- Shingles: NHS Wales currently offers vaccination to eligible age groups and adults with severe immunosuppression.
- RSV and pneumococcal vaccination: NHS programmes cover specified older adults, care-home residents and clinical risk groups. RSV vaccination in pregnancy is an NHS maternity service and is not provided under this private PGD.
- HPV, meningitis and childhood vaccines: routine school, childhood, catch-up and selected risk-group programmes may apply.
- Whooping cough in pregnancy: NHS Wales recommends vaccination during each pregnancy, normally from 16 weeks. Speak to your midwife or GP surgery.

Prices are shown per dose. Some vaccinations need two or three doses, so the total course cost can be higher. We will confirm the recommended schedule, likely total cost and current stock before vaccination.

Prices may change if supplier costs change. No vaccine will be administered without consent and a clinical suitability assessment.
Vaccinations available through the private clinic
Shingles vaccination
May be considered for adults aged 50 and over, or adults aged 18 and over who are at increased risk. It is a preventive two-dose course and does not treat active shingles.
Important: active shingles, pregnancy, breastfeeding and some previous vaccination histories fall outside this service.
RSV vaccination for adults
Usually considered for adults aged 60 and over. Some younger adults at increased risk may be suitable depending on their age, medical history and the vaccine selected.
Important: pregnancy and breastfeeding are excluded from this private PGD. Pregnant patients should use the NHS maternity programme.
Pneumococcal vaccination
May be considered from two years of age, subject to the age limits of the vaccine used. Pneumococcal disease can cause pneumonia, meningitis and sepsis.
Important: previous pneumococcal doses and certain high-risk conditions can change the appropriate route and schedule.
Whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus and polio booster
A combined booster may be considered from three years of age after a completed primary childhood course. It may also support catch-up vaccination or proof requirements after assessment.
Important: routine childhood and pregnancy vaccination is normally available through NHS Wales.
Meningitis B vaccination
Private vaccination may be considered from age two to 64, depending on which vaccine is clinically appropriate. The course and dose spacing vary with age and product.
Important: this does not provide protection against meningococcal groups A, C, W or Y.
Meningitis ACWY vaccination
Available from over two years of age for UK protection or relevant travel. A vaccination certificate can be issued where required for Hajj, Umrah or another entry requirement.
Important: certificate timing and validity depend on the receiving country’s current rules.
HPV vaccination
May be considered from nine years of age. The number of doses depends on age and immune status. Vaccination helps prevent disease caused by vaccine-covered HPV types.
Important: it does not treat an existing HPV infection, genital warts or established HPV-related disease, and cervical screening remains important.
Chickenpox vaccination
A two-dose live-vaccine course may be considered from 12 months of age for people without a clear history of chickenpox, following individual assessment.
Important: it is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, during significant immunosuppression, or for someone with active chickenpox.

Vaccination and aftercare where appropriate
With your consent, the vaccine is administered if clinically suitable and in stock. You receive aftercare advice, a vaccination record and details of any further dose required.
Important suitability and safety information
Tell us about every health condition, medicine, allergy and previous vaccine reaction. The questions below are not a complete list of exclusions; the full assessment must be completed before vaccination.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding: suitability varies between vaccines. Chickenpox, shingles and the private RSV service are not provided in these circumstances. HPV vaccination is postponed during pregnancy.
- Immune suppression: tell us about cancer treatment, transplant medicines, biological medicines, steroids, HIV or another condition affecting immunity. Live chickenpox vaccination is not suitable for significantly immunosuppressed patients.
- Previous vaccines: bring your vaccination record where possible. Recent or previous doses can affect whether another vaccination is appropriate and when it can be given.
- Allergies and reactions: tell us about severe allergic reactions to vaccines, antibiotics, latex, gelatine or other ingredients.
- Bleeding disorders or anticoagulants: vaccination technique or suitability may need adjustment.
- Acute illness: a minor cold may not prevent vaccination, but a significant fever or acute illness may mean postponing the appointment.
Most vaccine reactions are mild and short-lived, such as pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, headache, tiredness, fever or muscle aches. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, collapse or another severe reaction. Call 999 for a life-threatening emergency or use NHS 111 Wales for urgent advice when it is not life-threatening.

Will I definitely receive a vaccine?
No. Vaccination depends on your age, medical history, medicines, allergies, previous doses, the applicable clinical criteria and stock availability.
Can children use the private vaccination clinic?
Some services are available for children, but minimum ages differ. A parent or person with parental responsibility must provide the required consent, and NHS eligibility will be checked.
Can I have more than one vaccination at the same appointment?
Sometimes. Whether vaccines can be given together depends on the specific vaccines, your health and the timing of previous doses. The clinician will confirm the safest schedule.
Do you provide vaccination certificates?
A meningitis ACWY certificate can be provided where appropriate for Hajj, Umrah or another recognised entry requirement. Bring your passport details and travel information.
Can I book if I do not know my vaccination history?
Yes, but previous records are helpful. We may need you to obtain information from your GP or previous provider before a safe schedule can be confirmed.
