The independent prescribing pharmacist in Treherbert has completed additional prescribing training and has an independent-prescribing annotation on the professional register.

Can the independent prescribing pharmacist in Treherbert help with my symptoms?

This is a guide rather than a guarantee of treatment. Suitability depends on your symptoms, age, medical history, medicines, allergies, examination findings and the pharmacist’s scope of practice.
What the NHS prescribing service does not routinely cover
The national service is for acute minor illness and defined contraception care. It is not a general replacement for every GP, urgent-care or long-term-condition appointment.
- Wounds needing assessment or dressings, and animal or human bites — these need a different assessment route.
- Routine chronic disease management — repeated or ongoing symptoms may need GP or specialist review.
- Fungal nail infection — this is outside the national PIPS scope.
- Smoking cessation — use our dedicated NHS stop smoking service.

- Emergency supplies of regular medicines — contact the pharmacy so the correct NHS emergency-supply route can be considered.

Jon will discuss your symptoms, medical history, allergies and current medicines. An examination or clinical observations may be needed.

You may receive self-care advice, over-the-counter treatment, an NHS prescription or referral. If a prescription is issued and the medicine is available, it can usually be supplied by the pharmacy.

Safety-netting
You will be told what to expect, how to use any treatment and when to seek further help if symptoms persist, worsen or change.
